What’s New?!

  • Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program is off the ground and running! We will be open every Friday & Saturday for neighbors through March 28th. This program connects neighbors with IRS-certified tax preparers to complete their taxes on time and ensure they’re not missing out on extra returns.

We’re so grateful for all of our volunteers and United Way Greater Richmond and Petersburg‘s continued partnership over the years!

  • After our community Listening Sessions in the fall, we had one for providers in the regions we serve. It was great to hear their perspectives on the results of the Listening Sessions and to gain some additional insight for our Community Needs Assessment (CNA). We will be sharing the results of the CNA in the spring. Thank you to Crater Regional Workforce Board for graciously hosting us!

Meet Isaac Mulenga, Operations Coordinator

  • As the Operations Coordinator at CAPUP, I help make sure our daily programs run smoothly and efficiently. While this takes a lot of different forms, it is mostly done by supporting pantry operations, welcoming clients with respect and dignity, assisting clients at the reception desk, and performing additional administrative tasks.
  • I’m from Congo and moved to Richmond 9 years ago with my wife and four children. Together, we love playing tennis, spending time outdoors, and going to Kings Dominion. Personally, I enjoy working out, joking around, socializing and getting to know new people.
  • This role is great for me since I’m passionate about community service, equity, and helping families access basic needs. I enjoy working behind the scenes to keep things organized, but I also love interacting with clients, volunteers and community members. I believe strong communities are built when people come together to support one another.
  • CAPUP is more than a pantry.  It’s a community support system. We help reduce food insecurity, connect people to resources, and provide a safe space where individuals and families can receive help without judgment. CAPUP strengthens the community by making sure that no  client in our community is left behind.

If you’ve felt inspired, here are several ways Isaac recommends getting involved with CAPUP:

  • Volunteer at the food pantry (greeting, sorting, and packing)
  • Donate food, supplies, or funds
  • Partner with CAPUP as a local business, school, or organization
  • Share CAPUP’s mission by spreading awareness in the community
