What’s New?!

  • As we continue to improve our volunteer processes, we started our first content session with the Service Enterprise Initiative (SEI) last week. We discussed our organizational culture, the value and purpose of volunteer engagement, and dreamt about the future of volunteers at CAPUP!
  • Beginning in February, we have been conducting surveys with our food pantry recipients. We are asking about their experience with us, foods they would like to see incorporated, and foods that are not serving them well. We’ve added an element of fun too. We have a Spin-the-wheel where they can win prizes such as a Kroger gift card or CAPUP swag!

Meet John Lewis, Senior Facilities & Fleet Manager

  • I am the Building and Transportation Manager with over 43 years of experience in building construction, property maintenance, and fleet management. I have a proven track record in troubleshooting and repairing complex electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems to ensure 100% facility and fleet functionality.
  • I am passionate about leaving any situation better than I found it and aim to bring my ability to creatively fix the problem with every project or situation. When I’m not working, you can find me with my fur babies, wife, grandbaby or at my daughter’s house fixing things.
  • Born and raised in Richmond, I love the feeling of giving back to my community and seeing the gratitude on the faces of the people I help. I started as a volunteer at our food pantry around 2009. I then transitioned to be a contract worker to upgrade CAPUP’s boardroom with new doors, paint and decorative chair rail molding. From there, I was hired to complete a building uplift from an empty 1950’s warehouse space to offices and beautiful meeting areas. That project grew into what is now not considered a job. In addition to problem solving and fixing things, I also make sure that every month our fleet of vehicles is ready to go whether it be for meal deliveries (over 1100 meal deliveries monthly), senior citizen rides (over 800 monthly), picking up donations for the food pantry, taking high school children on project discovery trips, and where ever our many and growing employees need to go on CAPUP business. It is definitely not a 9 to 5 job that gets left behind when I go home. It’s more of a 7am to 7pm kind of thing!  But, if I didn’t love it, I wouldn’t do it!!
