What’s New?!
This week, we began our journey with the Service Enterprise Initiative (SEI)—a nationally recognized program that helps organizations like ours strengthen their infrastructure around volunteer engagement. By participating in SEI, we are committing to building the systems, culture, and leadership necessary to create a truly exceptional volunteer experience—one where both our community and our volunteers thrive.
- This week, all of our staff took the Diagnostic Survey to evaluate how volunteers are currently utilized in our programs and how they can be expanded in the future. We are excited to debrief the results and have professional coaching with Katie Campbell with Skye Consulting in partnership with the Community Foundation. Stay tuned for more!

Meet Gale Connor, Senior Services
- I plan and implement activities for our Senior Services for seniors ages 60 and above. I also oversee the meal program and assist seniors with light case management. My goal is to make sure CAPUP is doing everything we can to assist our seniors to safely age in place. Our seniors love to play games, go on trips (such as to Walmart, restaurants, resource fairs, and museums), and learn from guest speakers who present on a variety of topics.
- I am originally from New York but was raised mostly in Virginia. I am married and am proud of the legacy we’ve created that spans across four children and five grandchildren. In 1993, I began working with seniors at RRHA and have been with CAPUP’s seniors since 2007. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and reading mystery novels, particularly those by Patricia Cornwell.
- If a senior is interested in joining our Senior Services, they can reach out to Gale via email here. After connecting, she will send them a brief application. There is no fee involved in being part of the CAPUP’s Senior Services.
- I believe that our Senior Services provides local seniors with a safe place to come, to connect with other people, and to provide an alternative to sitting at home and letting loneliness kick in. Participating in our program ensures that multiple times a week seniors receive a hot meal, fresh groceries, food, fellowship and fun.
