What’s New?!

  • We’ve wrapped up our Listening Session before the holidays begin and are eagerly sifting through all the data we received. We can’t wait to share more with you in the spring!
  • We had our Annual Board Meeting on December 4, and voted in new officers. We are so grateful for the ways our Board helps lead and guide our decision-making process.
  • Even though we had to close for a few days due to the snow, we’re back and ready to serve clients more than ever!

Meet Melita Prosise-Riley, Basic Needs Specialist

  • I began at CAPUP as a MetroCare worker but have had the privilege of being an intake specialist for CAPUP’s food pantry and rental/utility assistance programs. A typical day includes setting the pantry up for success, making people feel comfortable during their time of need, and assessing their needs in order to provide either internal or external resources. I enjoy breaking down the stigma others feel about asking for help by providing others with dignity and making them laugh.
  • I am originally from Dinwiddie, Virginia, and have served in the community for close to 15 years in a variety of capacities. From cleaning toilets to helping others establish nonprofits, I have done it all. Prior to my work at CAPUP, I volunteered at many food pantries. I am married, have three adult children, and four grandchildren. I love all things technology (especially AI) and sitting by the river for some quiet time. While I enjoy recharging alone, I also am proud to be a worship leader at a variety of churches in the Tri-Cities area. I haven’t told many people this, but I’m working on creating/producing my own music for the first time!
  • The work I do matters. I see it on the faces and in the stories of those who come to CAPUP. Recently during an intake, a client shared that he was at the food pantry because he hadn’t had anything to eat in three days. It breaks my heart to hear these stories. Yet, I am profoundly grateful to be a light in the midst of such darkness.
