FOOD PANTRY
Open Monday–Thursday, 10am–12pm, our on-site food pantry provides groceries tailored to your household’s size and needs.
We offer monthly support or weekly support for those without housing.
RENT ASSISTANCE
We provide short-term rent assistance to help prevent eviction and keep families stably housed.
Support is based on need and may include referrals to other local housing resources.
UTILITY ASSISTANCE
We offer short-term assistance with electric, gas, and water bills.
CAPUP is a MetroCare and Dominion Energy partner. We can connect you to additional support if needed.
Who We Serve
Residents of the greater Richmond area. We can also provide referrals for those in Petersburg, Hopewell, Prince George, and Dinwiddie.
Eligibility
- Open to households experiencing food insecurity.
Items Needed to Apply
Names and dates of birth for all household members and rent amount.
Get Started
Walk in during open hours. Staff will guide you through a brief registration process.
How often can I visit?
Eligible households may receive food assistance once every 30 days.
- CAPUP also provides smaller, kitchenless food kits to households without access to a kitchen once a week, on a limited basis.

- Must present an eviction or late payment notice.
- Applicant must have a verifiable source of income.
- Rental assistance is available one time only.

Valid photo identification, eviction notice or late notice, proof of income, lease agreement (first and signature pages)

Eligibility
- City of Richmond public utilities account must be in the same name as the applicant.
- Applicant must occupy the residence as the address provided in the utility bill.
- Water must still be connected.
- Applicant's utilities cannot be through an apartment complex.
- Applicant must not have any unpaid deposits on their account.
- Applicant has not received assistance within the current program year.
- Meet income guidelines.
What to Bring
Photo ID, Social Security card, most recent DPU water utility bill, 1st page & signature page of your (most recent) lease or Mortgage/Deed Statement, and verification of income of everyone in the household.
