Shutdown Response

What’s New?!

Over the last 2 weeks, we have seen the implications of a government shutdown up close. Many of our neighbors depend on food pantries like ours to meet their most basic needs. However, we also saw new faces who had never visited a pantry before. One woman said “This is my first time. My husband was furloughed…” It is not lost on us that we get to step into the mess and offer presence, food, and support. In anticipation of SNAP benefits being paused, we served exponentially more individuals than we had during previous weeks (see chart below). This was possible through the generosity of FeedMore and our community members who graciously increased their donations during this SNAP lapse.

As we continue to see an increase in pantry participants, we are so grateful for our partners, pantry staff and volunteers who continue to show up and support our community!
