- How Can I Get Involved?
What’s New?!
At CAPUP, we are focused on rebuilding the success and progress of the organization so that we may best serve our community.
- As part of this effort, we have moved to a new location at 710 Dawn St. We are excited to be on the bus line and that our space is accessible by foot. This space meets our current organizational needs very well!
- We also have developed our 3-Year Strategic Plan to lay the foundation for being the regional leader in poverty reduction. This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible work of Blue Octopus Consulting, who helped us navigate towards our true north. One-Pager Strategic Plan.

Meet Saundra Laws, Basic Needs Program Manager
- Currently, I oversee CAPUP’s programs that are truly the heart of the community: the food pantry and rental/utility assistance. I help provide nutritious food to clients, provide reassurance and intervention when rental + utility crises come up, and am a resource guide/connector.
- I was born and raised in Richmond. I’m the mother to two amazing, grown kids. In my free time, I love seeing history come alive through a good photo album, enjoy eating yummy food, and walking in the city. After a stressful day, my go-to is mowing the lawn (which gives me mental clarity) and enjoying R&B music.
- I believe my work provides hope and stability to the community I dearly love. If you are interested in getting involved, we would love to have you volunteer at the food pantry.
