Poverty is a state of being without; a condition in which a person or community lacks the essentials and resources to live a minimum standard of being. Poverty is the complete lack of the means necessary to meet basic personal needs such as food, clothing, and shelter, which affect all ethnicities, race, creeds, and color. Poverty will greet us on different and uneven playing fields. For some, the playing field is so vast and very uneven, making it a much higher climb for some to reach their desired standard of being and prosperity.

Capital Area Partnership Uplifting People, Inc. (CAPUP) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated for over 50 years to making a positive difference in the lives of those experiencing hardships. The agency consists of multiple programs that were created to empower people in the cities of Richmond, Petersburg, and Hopewell as well as Powhatan, Prince George, Buckingham, and Goochland Counties of Central Virginia. 

Our mission is to strengthen communities by providing resources for people to help themselves.
