We operate an Emergency Food Pantry that provides commodities allocated to us from the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA). Clients are eligible to receive food from the Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) if their household meets the income guidelines and/or participates in any of the following aid programs: SNAP, TANF, SSI and Medicaid. We also offer donated items to clientele that may not meet the aforementioned requirements. Food is distributed Monday through Thursday from our Community Center, located in the City of Richmond.
In addition to our food pantry, we also offer Emergency Rent and Utility Assistance to community members in need. We utilize support and resources from MetroShare, EnergyShare, FEMA and CSBG in order to provide these services. Clients will be required to show proper proof of ID and any requested documentation to receive financial assistance services.
Customers that reside in Dinwiddie County, Hopewell, Petersburg or Prince George County are able to receive services Tuesday – Friday at our satellite location:

Our program provides unemployed job seekers with various skill-building opportunities such as career counseling, job readiness training, and resume writing assistance. Our primary goal is to help our participating clients obtain and maintain long-term employment.

Serving youth ages 0-12 years of age, this program offers reimbursements on a formula basis in the Capital Region of Virginia to state-licensed, locally certified, and voluntarily- registered in-home Childcare Educators desiring to provide nutritious meals and snacks that contribute to the wellness, healthy growth, and development of children from low-income and middle-income families. The amount of reimbursement is determined by the number of children participating in the educator’s program as well as the types of meals served and number of days in operation.
This program is funded and operated in conjunction with Virginia Department of Health and Human Services (VDH), and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) - Food & Nutrition Services (FNS).

Throughout its 33-year history, Project Discovery has proven to be an effective method for improving postsecondary matriculation, performance, and graduation rates for disadvantaged students across the state of Virginia.
Our vision is to see every student in the Greater Richmond Region graduate from high school and see every student who has the desire and demonstrates the ability attend post-secondary education.
Our Summer Enrichment Program provides fun, interactive learning experiences for low-income youth aged 6 to 11 years old in the City of Richmond. For five weeks during the summer months, they learn the fundamentals of music by way of voice, drum, recorder, and piano lessons. Participating youth are primarily from the East End of Richmond

Participants are provided breakfast and lunch through the USDA Summer Feeding Program in cooperation with the City of Richmond Parks and Recreation Feeding Program as well as through partnership with local small businesses such as The Market at 25th.

Located in the annex adjacent to our office in the City of Richmond, CAPUP’s Senior Center provides a wide range of services for low-income seniors such as a nutritional food program, regular blood pressure screenings, field trips, as well as workshops with focuses on arts and crafts, exercise, and financial wellness. We provide local transportation for up to 75 seniors participating in our Senior Center programming four days per week.
Through our collaboration with Senior Connections, The Capital Area Agency on Aging, we provide seniors with an opportunity to socially connect with their peers at our Friendship Cafes located in Powhatan County, Goochland County, and Hanover County. Senior Connections provides meals and activities for each of our Cafes while we provide transportation for almost 100 participants.
Lastly, we also offer an On-Call Transportation Service for seniors in Powhatan County and Goochland County in need of transportation to and from medical and social services appointments.
